TALKS & SPEAKERS:

For this year's Merry May Meeting, we have four (4) of our own Hort Members sharing their experiences and plant knowledge.

Trees In The Land of The Kiwi

The Hort's Treasurer, Emieke Geldof, is originally from New Zealand. In 2023 she went “home" with her family over Christmas. With photos taken while biking and kayaking in the West Coast of the South Island and hiking through the bush in the North Island, you’ll see some amazing trees and landscapes.

Wasabi And Chopsticks, Adventures In Hong Kong And Japan

After a brief stay with familiar smell of fried rice and guttural conversations in Hong Kong, Bill Cheng once again jet set to the wonderful yet overly courteous culture in the land of sake and kimono. Please join us for a few photos and laugh at the May meeting after the hectic run of our plant fair.

A Visit To "The Nature Island"

In the summer of 2023 Hort President Ron Charlemagne travelled with his mom to their home country of Dominica “The Nature Island”. The island’s mission to preserving it’s natural environment and habitat has been a phenomenal feat throughout the years. Ron will be presenting photos and information about the diverse plants and vegetation common in this region.

Kathy's Garden In Stanley Park North

Long time hort member and friend of Kathy Andrachuck, Helen Vorster is leading the gardening group that takes care of Kathy’s Garden, the pollinator garden planted in her memory at the north end of Stanley Park. Helen will show some of the plants (natives, ‘nearly’ natives, weeds, thugs, wimps, etc) we are growing there and talk about the challenges and satisfaction to be had from gardening in a large, sunny, public garden.
